My third career is as printmaker – screen on fabric or lino mainly, and it is such a pleasure when people like my work enough to buy it.

I started my working life as a bi-lingual secretary in Barclays International in the city of London but was horrified at the short annual holidays!  I retrained as a modern languages teacher, and as a result met my husband in my first teaching job and followed him to Peru where we taught in a British Council School in Lima.

I love foreign and exotic places, vibrant colours and seeing different animals and plants.  I think this shows in the work I now produce, reflecting what I have seen and experienced.

When my children were small I started a watercolour painting class and enjoy the unexpected results that ‘wet on wet’ can produce and the variety and depth of colour.  When we moved to Ely I went to Cottenham Village College Summer school and tried my hand at screen printing on fabric – and I absolutely loved it and have never lost my enthusiasm for this medium.   Hence ‘Fabfabs’.

Recently I have also had some success with lino prints, and have sold lots through the Coastal shop at Blakeney, Norfolk.  These have also been reflections of my experiences while visiting the Norfolk coast.

My teaching career ended recently in redundancy but it has given me more time to pursue my artistic interests.

Fabfabs is about useful items being fun and art being everywhere in everyday items. T-towels, pillowcases, aprons, duvet covers, t-shirts, ready made clothes – all can be printed on and made colour fast by ironing.

That is how Fabfabs began, a shop in Holt , Blakeney, Cathedral Fair in Ely.
